5-Step Blueprint For a Total Health Turnaround

When I found out about the power of a whole food plant-based diet to prevent, control and reverse many serious chronic diseases through my own desperate weight loss struggle and fears of breast cancer recurrence after my breast cancer treatment, I decided that I had to share this message with everyone who is wondering if this could be true for them, too. I just have to share my experience, strength and hope with you because I've been there.

 

Now that I've facilitated and watched so many of you reach complete health turnarounds through adopting a whole food plant-based lifestyle, I've discovered the 5 key elements that make all the difference in success.

 

I can now tell you with absolute certainty that you need all of these 5 elements within you in order to succeed, like Jo or Travis, below.

 

And this applies no matter what your definition of a total health success result is. Maybe it's losing 100 pounds and getting off meds for high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar or maybe it's just losing 20 pounds and eliminating a chronic pain or digestive problem. Or maybe you just want to feel the best you have ever felt in your whole life and prevent disease the best way you can for the rest of your life.

 

Whatever your definition of health success, following this 5-step blueprint will definitely work for you.

 

Step 1:  Knowing you can

 

Having the certain belief inside you that you can accomplish this and that a whole food plant-based diet will work for you is the #1 strength you need to experience a complete health turnaround yourself.

 

I know this will work for you and I have complete trust in your ability to do this for yourself, but...

So, what if, right now, you don't really believe you can ever lose the weight or that diets never work for you? Or, that because your whole family is also obese and has type 2 diabetes that you are destined to have it, too?  Or, you're afraid you won't like it once you make the change?

 

Instead of entertaining that type of negative self talk that limits you and keeps you from pushing through your fears to something great on the other side, I want you to take a moment right now to think of a time in your mind, in your past, where you succeeded at something really difficult. Something life-changing where you were really proud of yourself:

  • Did you quit smoking?

  • Overcome a serious fear that held you back?

  • Accomplish going back to school or a career change?

  • Get out of a bad relationship when you felt stuck?

  • Move across the country?

Now, close your eyes, step into that moment like you are there right now and feel those feelings of accomplishment and pride. What does that feel like?

 

If you can do THAT, then you can do THIS. It's that simple. And it's those types of EMPOWERING thoughts you need to repeat to yourself if you really want to experience a dramatic health turnaround success with your whole food plant-based lifestyle.

 

In addition, maybe you're not convinced about the medical evidence proving a whole food plant-based diet can reverse your symptoms and risk factors or you don't really understand how it works or you don't really believe that animal foods are as harmful as this evidence proves.

 

In that case, you won't experience a total health turnaround until your beliefs are strong and you are full of conviction that this will work for you, as the medical evidence predicts that it will. If that's your problem, you need to watch "Forks Over Knives" and "What the Health"  (for free on Netflix) for a broad overview of this medical evidence presented by plant-based physicians and other health policy experts and patients themselves who have experienced it with their patients and their research. And, to bolster your knowledge and conviction even further, read any of the many books written by plant-based physicians who have studied the research and treated patients clinically this way toward the type of health success you are looking for:

  • How Not To Die, by Dr. Michael Greger

  • How to Prevent & Reverse Heart Disease, by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn

  • Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes Without Drugs

  • The End Of Dieting, by Dr. Joel Fuhrman

  • The China Study, by Dr. t. Colin Campbell

Step 2: Going all the way

 

This step is for you especially if you have tried to just go vegetarian (still eating dairy, cheese and eggs) or vegan (still eating oils and processed vegan foods) and not gotten the weight loss or health results you want and need.

 

You'll need to finally let go of the notion that you can just do this "a little bit" or with "baby steps" if you want to experience a total health turnaround. That's because moderation rarely works for most people, according to all of the medical evidence we now have.

 

If you really want to have a total and permanent health turnaround success then you've got to take this all the way, right now. That means adopting a whole food plant-based no-oil diet...not just vegetarian and not just vegan. Neither of those options will give you the total results you want and instead they will just prolong your pain and suffering of the health issues you have. 

 

Once you take it all the way, you have the opportunity for faster results and for feeling better faster, too.

 

Step 3: Giving your time & focus

 

Just like that thing you succeeded at before, you probably worked pretty hard for it. You probably spent lots of time making sure you succeeded. You probably had to focus on it every day, change your schedule around, accomplish a learning curve, pay money to  get the guidance or products and services you need to go along with the change.

 

To adopt a whole food plant-based no oil diet for a total health turnaround, you may need to spend more time in the kitchen, learning a new way to cook or spending more time reading up on it or watching documentaries to learn more. You may need to rearrange your schedule to put yourself first to make sure you have what you need every day.  You may need to spend some time focusing on yourself, doing some inner work on why you want to make this change and how to harness your personal power. 

 

Step 4: Creating accountability

 

Some people make a decision in their head and are strongly accountable to it in their own minds and heart.

 

Others try but just can't seem to keep it going for any of the above reasons or because they also need some support from others. Maybe you hide easily and sink back into old habits. Maybe you thrive on encouragement, guidance and someone to check up on you. Maybe a weekly weigh-in will help hold you accountable until it becomes a habit. If that's you, you'll need to admit that to yourself and invest in getting the help you need to have a successful health turnaround.

Step 5: Creating a compelling "WHY?"

 

If you follow me in our closed Going Vegan For Health Facebook Group,  you've probably heard me say this many times before but it is such an important element it bears repeating as often as possible.

 

When I begin to ask most people why they want to adopt a whole food plant-based lifestyle to turn their health around, they will say, "I just want to be healthy" or "I'm tired of being so tired." But these really aren't compelling enough to hold you to it, are they?

 

What I want you to do is keep asking yourself why after every statement until you drill down to the ultimate reason why you want to overcome these health issues once and for all. You'll know you've hit upon a compelling WHY when you have answered yourself with a thought that makes you feel like crying. What is it for you?

 

Since I'm a breast cancer survivor, thinking about cancer cells within me spreading, growing large and dark (which is what eating animal products causes) makes tears well up in my eyes and my whole body  shiver.
